Logging your runs is especially helpful when you have injuries and want to look back and see, for instance, whether your plantar fasciitis was in your left or right foot when you had it before, so your insurance can decide if it's a preexisting condition (aka if it will cover it or not...)
Also it's just a good plan. I recommend it. Any log, not necessarily mapmyrun or other online thingamabobs or whatever, I currently log in a Sierra Club engagement calendar thing that I got for Christmas.
